How far is Girona Airport from Barcelona?

When travelling to Barcelona it is also possible to fly in to Girona Airport and get a transfer to the city centre, as well as flying in to Barcelona’s main airport. Girona’s airport is situated just over 100km from Barcelona. The transfer time between the airport and Barcelona city centre is around 1 hour by car or bus and between 40 and 90 minutes by train.


How to get from Girona Airport to Barcelona?

Bus – taking the bus from Girona Airport to Barcelona is one of the easiest ways to travel. The journey time is around 1 hour 10 minutes. The bus stop is right outside the arrivals terminal and takes you to Estacio d' Autobusos Barcelona Nord (Barcelona's main bus terminal), situated in the city centre. To then get to your final destination, the Arc du Triomph metro station is a 5-10 minute walk away from the bus station and allows you to access all parts of the city. Be sure to leave the exit called Sortida Nàpols in the bus station in order to get to the metro station. Also take note that there are two buses that go from Girona to Barcelona, one from the city centre and one from the airport, so take care when making your booking. Bus tickets cost €16 for a single and €25 for a return.


Train – this travel option requires you to go from the airport to Girona’s train station, a journey that can be made by bus or taxi (the taxi fare is around €20). Remember to add another half an hour to your journey time for your taxi or bus journey. There are several trains between Girona and Barcelona, some with a journey time of just 39 minutes. Other trains can take up to an hour and a half. The train will take you right in to the city centre, to the Barcelona Sants train station. To find the timetable, use the Renfe website  


Taxi and car hire – if you would prefer to travel by car, it is possible to go either by taxi or rent your own vehicle. Going by taxi is an expensive option, with a fare of around €120. If you have more time and would like to see some of the Catalonian coastline, renting a car is a great option. The car can be rented from the airport itself, saving you the journey in to Girona’s city centre.
